We source our amazing and colorful beeswax canvas A.L Frances. The fabric starts with 100% cotton canvas that is cut and hand wax in-house with Texas Hill Country beeswax that is filtered 5 times, making the fabric ultra-clean and giving it a very special structured hand.

The Waxed fabric is beautifully imperfect, it scratches, distresses, and wears much like leather. Waxing fabric creates a naturally rugged, sturdy, and durable fabric that has a "lived-in look" which is perfect for tote bags, backpacks, or anything you can imagine. Often times the fabric will have a subtle sweet honey scent.

Hybrid Waxed Canvas

The ‘Hybrid’ finish is an incredibly unique product offered only by Halley Stevensons.  The 'Hybrid' articles use an emulsified wax finish that provides equal weather protection and performance to the Classic Wax but with a dry hand feel. Unlike the ‘Classic Wax’ finishes that have the waxy/oily hand feel and craze/pull-up effect, the Hybrid articles feel dry to the touch and do not have craze/pull-up effects when handling.

Benefits:

• Hand Feel is drier wax hand feel then normal Bees waxed canvas and iis just as firm.
• Water Resistant
• Resists Craze Marks  (Also known as: patina, pull-up, cracking, breaking. This means when you scrunch the canvas, lighter color crease marks will not appear.)

Waxed canvas or waxed cotton was used centuries ago, when sailors realized that their sails caught more wind when wet. Sailors in the mid-19th century discovered they could apply linseed oil to their sailcloth, and eventually to their capes to waterproof the fabric.

In the 1930s, the application of linseed oil was replaced with a new process of impregnated cotton cloth with paraffin wax. This produced a waxed canvas that remained highly water resistant, but more breathable and less stiff.
